In conjunction with a mayoral task force and the Health Department, the Department of Homeless Services recently started enforcing new nutritional rules for food served at city shelters. Since DHS can’t assess the nutritional content of donated food, shelters have to turn away good Samaritans.
I have to apologize to both of my readers this fine evening. I’m at a loss for words. What can be said about this? Not a heck of a lot, really. You know what I’d really really like? I’d like to find out it’s a hoax and print a retraction, admit that I’d been lured in by an internet hoax. But it’s probably true.
Unions are probably behind this, it’s gotta be that. It’s not about nutrition, it’s about non-union volunteers volunteering to feed people. Can’t allow that, now can we.
